Make a pair of sculptural ceramic bloom bombs for arranging flowers and foliage.
Spend a relaxed Saturday morning at Claymates Studio making a pair of sculptural ceramic Bloom Bombs — a larger slab-built piece and a smaller pinch-pot companion. Perfect for arranging flowers, foliage and those few beautiful stems gathered from the garden.
During the morning, you’ll learn two different hand-building techniques. We’ll use slab building to create the larger bloom bomb, then the wonderfully tactile pinch-pot technique to make its smaller companion.
I’ll guide you through shaping and refining both pieces, as well as considering the size and placement of the openings and how these affect the way flowers sit in the finished vessels. We’ll take our time over the finishing, so your flower bombs become pieces you’ll be proud to use at home.
We’ll pause during the morning for morning tea from Wildflora, served in the studio gallery.
After the workshop, your bloom bombs will stay with me in the studio to dry completely before their first kiln firing. I’ll then finish each piece in a tactile volcanic glaze with a soft, limestone-like surface before firing them for a second time.
Your finished bloom bombs will be ready for collection before Christmas — just in time for summer flowers and your Christmas table.
